Honda is recalling a total of 489,000, or 268,655 CR-V crossovers in the U.S. because of a possible fire risk between model years 2002 and 2006.
It says that over time, water coming in through the driver’s window could come in contact with the window’s master power switch. Fires can occur even if the car isn’t in use as the switch’s contact with water over time can cause the unit to overheat.
Honda is advising drivers to avoid parking outside until the issue is fixed free of charge. Repairs will begin when the recall takes effect on November 2.
U.S. owners can call Honda at (800) 999-1009 for more information. Repairs will be carried out through the brand’s dealer network.
